About this Recipe
Good coffee, sugar and alcohol- what’s not to like? For those of your who have an espresso machine at home, this is certainly something you should try.
A carajillo is a coffee based drink with Spanish origins. It’s historically a small, strong coffee combines with either brandy, whisky, anisette or rum. Legend has it that it originated on the island of Cuba at the time when it was still under Spanish control.
There are several different ways of making the Carajillo and the version you receive depends on where you are.
The American version of a Spanish coffee uses a heated sugar rimmed Spanish coffee mug with 20ml rum and 10 ml triple sec. The drink is then flamed to caramelize the sugar. 50ml coffee liqueur is then added which puts out the flame, and then it is topped off with 100ml of coffee and whipped cream.
We’ve decided however, to keep our version sleek, sweet and to the point.
- A good espresso
- Licor43
- A curl of orange peel
Optional
- steamed milk
- dark rum
- whipped cream
We’re using an espresso here that is classic with a twist- our Sol&Cafe‘. It has a great chocolaty base with just a hint of mandarin and cardamon.
